Hi Everyone,
As you know, Rockin’ Rescue (AGWC) has been fighting against being shut down by the City of Los Angeles because of a zoning issue.
Unfortunately, the Zoning Administrator denied the variance requested by Rockin’ Rescue. The Zoning Administrator’s decision has been appealed to the South Valley Area Planning Commission. The Appeal is attached; the Zoning Administrator’s decision is attached to the Appeal, at the end. If you read the Appeal, you will know exactly what is going on in this matter.
As you may recall, both the Tarzana Neighborhood Council and the Woodland Hills Neighborhood Council unanimously supported granting the variance so that Rockin’ Rescue can continue to operate. City Councilman Bob Blumenfield also supported granting the variance. Nevertheless, the Zoning Administrator denied the variance, even though she specially found as follows:
"There is no dispute that the applicant [Rockin’ Rescue] is providing a valuable and necessary service for the City. The proposed variances were supported by the Woodland Hills NC, Councilmember Blumenfield, the adjacent Tarzana NC, and hundreds of area residents." [Zoning Administrator Decision (ZA Decision) page 8 (emphasis added).]
Concern about the lives and well-being of animals, as well as respecting the will of the people and their elected representatives, didn’t seem to count for much at that stage of the proceedings.
So now the matter goes to the South Valley Area Planning Commission, on appeal. If you support Rockin’ Rescue, please sign the petition on the right side of this page (click on the link to get a PDF or copy the text to the right), get your friends, neighbors, and family to sign, and return it to me. (Jeff@MausnerLaw.com) When you get signatures, please don’t wait until you have a full page of signatures; send Petitions back to me whenever you get a few signatures, and then start a new Petition.
The Zoning Administrator didn’t think it mattered that hundreds of area residents supported Rockin’ Rescue -- let’s get thousands. Also, it is really important that you come to the hearing of the South Valley Area Planning Commission to show your support. THE HEARING WILL TAKE PLACE ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, 2017 AFTER 4:30 PM, at the Marvin Braude San Fernando Valley Service Center, 6262 Van Nuys Blvd., 1st Floor, Van Nuys, CA 91401. The Notice of Hearing is also attached to the right -- click on the link.
Thank you for your support of Rockin’ Rescue and the homeless dogs and cats of Los Angeles.
Best regards, Jeff

Explanation of Rockin' Rescue Petition
Letter to Zoning Administrator
(Please return to Jeff@MausnerLaw.com)
To the South Valley Area Planning Commission
We, the undersigned, very strongly support Rockin' Rescue's efforts to obtain the zone variance necessary to remain open in its current location at 19855 Ventura Blvd.
We think Rockin’ Rescue is the best animal rescue in the area. Rockin’ Rescue is a non-profit organization that is mainly funded by Ady Gil. It serves the communities of Woodland Hills, Tarzana, and the entire city of Los Angeles, by taking dogs and cats from the Los Angeles City Shelters, and finding them loving homes. Rockin’ Rescue has saved the lives of many dogs and cats who were about to be killed at the West Valley Shelter, provided medical care for them, and made sure that they were adopted. It would be a tragedy if Rockin’ Rescue is shut down. There are about 100 animals there now. If Rockin’ Rescue had to close down, those animals would be brought to city shelters, where many of them could be killed; or other animals could be killed to make room for the animals coming from Rockin’ Rescue. Additionally, if Rockin’ Rescue was shut down, it would be unable to save the lives of hundreds of dogs and cats in the future.
Rockin’ Rescue serves a significant public purpose -- saving the lives of dogs and cats and getting them adopted with local area residents who want pets -- which I would like to see continue.
Thank you for your consideration.
